Chaske Spencer is a Native American actor best known for his roles in Into the West and The Twilight Saga. Born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Chaske grew up in Montana, Kooskia, Lapwai and Lewiston, Idaho. He acted as a young teen at the Lewiston Civic Theater and went to college at the Lewis Clark State College before starting his acting career. He has worked under the direction of coaches David Gideon and Ed Kovens.
Chaske’s first role was in the 2002 film Skins as Teen Rudy. He went on to roles in Dreamkeeper, Red Dead Revolver, Into the West and The Twilight Saga series based on the Stephenie Meyer novel. He is well known for his major role in Twilight as Sam Uley, the Alpha werewolf of the La Push pack who defends their lands against vampires. Chaske enjoyed playing a role that focused on such a complex backstory. Sam Uley seems like a man, but really he is just a teenager who has had to grow up too early and deal with the consequences of becoming a werewolf.
After Twilight, Chaske has continued to star in several TV shows and movies including Winter in the Blood, Desert Cathedral, “Banshee” (TV series) and his latest role, Wez McKendrick in Indian Summer.
Indian Summer is about a US Marine who arrives at a remote sheep farm in the Scottish Highlands in the summer of 1967. He meets a grieving boy, his lonely Aunt and stern Uncle whose lives are forever changed by his presence.
